The Ferula of the Evangelical City Parish Church in Sibiu

The "Ferula" is an L-shaped space at the west end of the City Parish Church in Sibiu. It was added in the 15th century and is today separated from the nave by the base of the tower. Its Gothic arches and tall windows, the west rose window and the wall chronicle - but above all the 70 tomb slabs of Transylvanian Saxon figures from the 16th to the 18th century - give the room its distinctive character. Since 1999 the Ferula has been in regular use again: it is open daily for guided tours of the church, and exhibitions and concerts are held there.
